Happy new year! Have you made some resolutions? The new year is an opportunity not only to get our homes and lives in order, but our blogs too. To ensure your blog is ready to tackle 2014, here are a few tips to get it in shape and feeling fresh:
1. Update Your Photos
We all know that stellar photography is what draws readers in so make sure your best work is on display. Are your images crisp and current? Is your profile photo up to date? You would be surprised how a few visual changes can make everything feel brand new.
2. Plan Ahead
We’ve all been there – writing tomorrow’s post at midnight – and it’s not a fun place to be. Taking the time to plan your content ahead of schedule allows you to write better posts and develop more original and unique ideas for your readers. If you want to feature seasonal projects ahead of holidays or do collaborations with other bloggers, an editorial calendar can be an invaluable tool to help with planning and organization.
3. Take A Step Back
Take a look at your blog as if you were a first time visitor. Is the layout cluttered or clear? If you were interested in a post and wanted to read more on that topic, is it easy to find old posts? Do your categories and tags make sense? What do readers come looking for when they visit your blog – DIYs? Travel tips? Videos? Make sure your popular content is accessible and obvious.
4. Set Blog Goals
Blogs shift and evolve over time. Take time to reflect and think about what you want your blog to be. Do you want to make it more than just a hobby and turn it into a full-time job? Did you start off talking about your wedding but now focus your content on your children and family life? Get a clear idea of what you want to blog about, how often you want to blog, and what type of readers you want to attract. Knowing this will help guide your content over the coming year.
5. Upgrade Your Skills
